The chapel, which was built in 1876, has a capacity for 80 worshippers.
The adjoining hall (formerly a school room) was added in 1921. It is available for hire, see the Lettings Secretary for details.
A further building (the Burchell room) was added in 1972 and is now the home of the Jack and Jill playgroup.
"There is a well-founded tradition that John Wesley preached in Northend, but
identification of the exact spot still eludes us. It is described variously as
a farmyard, a builder's yard, Mr Bartlett's yard ... Perhaps John Wesley came here
more than once. What is of greater importance is that from these beginnings came the
jubilant faith which inspired the building of the first Methodist Chapel in Batheaston
in 1796 and has sustained its people ever since."
From: It all began with John Wesley: the story of the Methodist Church in Batheaston, by Eve Parfitt (1976).
Heeding the words of John Wesley, the members of Batheaston Methodist Church have wholeheartedly committed themselves to covenanting with their fellow Christians in the Anglican, Congregational and Roman Catholic churches in Batheaston in the Local Ecumenical Partnership and believe that it is in this growing unity that the future lies. The earnest desire of the Christians of Batheaston is that Jesus Christ's prayer that his followers "may be one" can be fully realised in this village.
